People need to cooperate and use their logic and communication skills to find clues and solve riddles – within one hour. If we succeed we win; if we fail – we lose, pay money and go home… What exactly happens next? We decided to check it out ourselves!

And so the story begins…

We assumed that people who like thrillers would definitely like such an activity. So, we invited our friend – an English teacher from Canada – to join us! We took the tickets beforehand and chose the only slot available on that day, 12:15 pm. The room was located in one of the office buildings in downtown Vancouver.

The door to the room looked like any other door in this office building. There were no signs pointing at it. There were no hints or puzzles around either, so when we got there after 15 minutes walking through corridors it felt like “okay..so where is the game?” Then we saw two small cameras over the door…we looked at each other smiling realizing what’s about to happen!

And then… the door opened! There was a corridor with paintings on walls and skeletons hanging from the ceiling. One of them had a mask and we were supposed to take it (this was one of the first clues). We started thinking how could we get to that mask without touching any skeleton – because we were told not “not to touch anything” and each step and each clue cost time and money, so you don’t want to waste either. After several minutes of discussions where my 3 friends approached every possible solution differently, I decided to just grab the mask! It’s not like they are going to release us now!

So what happened next?

Well…it turns out these skeletons are pretty sensitive. And yes, just as soon as my hand touched the mask it triggered all kinds of creepy sounds – including screams! That scared me half to death though luckily everyone else just laughed Then we entered the room. It was dark and there were scary looking skeletons hanging on walls along with several paintings that looked pretty creepy to me personally, but all in all it wasn’t that scary.

There were also two props that looked like stones -but sooner or later you would realize they are actually touch screens. The guys immediately started touching them…and nothing happened! There were no clues on them, no information whatsoever! Okay what’s going on.. Where are the riddles? So, I sat down next to one of these touch screens and decided to figure out myself what does this mean – I only had little time left anyway to find everything.

I lifted my arm up and saw a padlock! I felt a huge relief – finally a puzzle! I was trying to figure out how to unlock it but my English is not that good and this puzzle wasn’t easy at all. In the meantime, others were exploring the room and finding clues on paintings. We divided roles – one is going through clues, the other is looking for possible locks, the third guy is listening to everything and giving us ideas about what could be behind a door if there is any…

The next step is supposed to be unlocking the padlock using a combination from paintings with numbers on them. We managed to open it only after 20 minutes of tough struggle. Next we had another lock with letters instead of numbers! First everyone tried both asian languages as well as languages they know – no result. The time was slowly running out and we were nervous and stressed…

And finally!

I pushed one of the touch screens and a painting with numbers appeared! We rushed to check it out and finally – we found all 3 combinations! One for padlock, one for another lock and third combination opened a secret door behind which there was another clue that helped us unlock the safe in which we found our keychain that meant we won the game! At this point when everything started making sense – when all pieces fell into place, excitement overwhelmed us! There was only 5 minutes left on the clock when we got to the safe though so overall it took us 55 minutes!

We became more aware of what teamwork is thanks to Keyquest Escaperoom. Of course, it also helped our communication to improve. I think it’s the best way of spending time together with friends – you are not only having fun , but getting to know each other better as well! The game is quite challenging and for us it came like a nice surprise that we were able to solve all riddles (when usually I’m the one who gets stuck in puzzles).

Caramba! This time our team designed and participated in the quest-adventure “Pirates of the Caribbean. Aztec Gold.”

Three thousand devils for a rumba. Everyone knew about the cursed Aztec gold, but they still took one coin with them. So we had to put everything back the way we found it, because we only had an hour to break the curse.

For those who are not yet familiar with the world of pirate travel, it’s time to dive right into it. Pirate paraphernalia was literally at every turn. We walked around the tavern, sat in the cabin, and even practiced navigation, and someone shot a couple of times from the board.

We recommend to get into character: try on a hat and chug mugs to wet your throat. Fish giblets and all the rum is gone. A thousand sharks. And there’s good music, too. If it hadn’t been for the curse, one of us would have stayed here stuffing the hold and shaking the bones.

It was great to find ourselves on the streets of Britain – mysterious and entourage. From the first minute you are enveloped in a sense of awe and curiosity that will guide you through the entire quest. Lots of details and elements that you can feel with your hands and use for their intended purpose, just like in normal life.

The quest puzzles are lined up linearly: there is one general idea that ties the work of finding the culprit together. A lot of tasks for comparison and logic, there is almost no search in the classic sense, but there is a place to crawl and explore.

The quest is fairly relaxed in the beginning, but by the end of the game the dynamics increase, you have to play faster and faster, getting the most out of the ending. The police station you have to play in is very tidy and pleasant to hang out in. The puzzles are directly related to the plot, you don’t get the feeling that something strange or contrived is going on. The plot entangles you from head to toe.

Clearly in love with his work the cameraman before the game told our team how not to show themselves as a Muggle: to use only magic (no physical force), to fly on brooms only in the street and try not to poke each other’s eyes out with magic wands.

Quest is drenched in the spirit of magic and sorcery: live pictures, caches, self-lighting candles and doors, detachable only with a special spell. The quest does not duplicate the plot of the movie – it immerses you in its own story, which mesmerizes from the first minute. A lot of small details, lovingly and carefully chosen for each other, completely immerse you in the story and fuel interest in the quest from room to room.

There were many obstacles on our way to the evil wizard’s hiding place: we had to look for missing parts, solve logical puzzles, place the items in their places, and carefully read the secret tips from our friends! The quest is non-linear – each of the team members will be able to contribute to the game independently of each other. The quest is perfect for a group of friends, a family, or a group of children at a children’s party.

Due to the fact that the plot is very closely intertwined with the puzzles, we lost track of time and passed the game in the same breath: each next step is clear and madly enjoys its thoughtfulness. Well, the bright ending (we, as purebred mages, managed to use a real spell!) is the cherry on the cake, full of great quests and their logical connection to each other.

The waiting room in the location is quite large: after the game here you can drink tea and discuss your impressions of the quest with the operator – all your wishes and thoughts will definitely be heard!

For a long time after the game we have not gone after a quest with a feeling of sheer happiness that reality has surpassed expectations! The prank was a success!

As in any old castle, there is probably a secret passage that leads to freedom, but how to find it? There is no chance of salvation, unless you know how to contact the spirits that live in this castle, because they know the answers to all questions…

We tried to take part in a quest developed by us and share our impressions.

My friends and I were traveling through Northern Europe. Noticing a medieval castle on a hill, we went to see it up close. Except that during the tour the keeper locked us in a dungeon and disappeared. Only the spirits living in that dungeon knew the way out.

After the ranger left us, we began to look around and study the room. The darkness and the sounds coming in made us a little uneasy, but after a while the repeating track dispelled this mysterious atmosphere. The entourage was quite simple, there were almost no screamers. But that doesn’t mean there wasn’t an experience at all. We relaxed and felt safe, it was easier to think how and where to go next.

The puzzles were more about attentiveness and searching skills. That said, the whole process was non-linear. Even if we found something, it wasn’t always useful right away. Often there were situations where we found some things, put them together and then thought about what to do with them. If we couldn’t think of anything, the spirits would come to our aid.

There were no other inhabitants in the castle, so it could be called safe. The quest would be suitable for beginners who just want to discover the world of mystery and mysticism, as well as for family time.
